And Now… Patch Adams and a Vision for the Future… NOW…
Get ready to hear some truly great news you won’t hear on the nightly news.
We have been induced to believe that we individual citizens don’t stand a chance against vast corporate interests, especially when it comes to things like “health care.”
Two men, both very dedicated visionaries–Paul Glover and Patch Adams–are hoping to prove that wrong, with the formation of a new community based clinic, founded as a charity.
Bringing together all of their shared experiences in changing the world their own way, against all rules, Glover and Adams have designed America’s first FREE health clinic, now in the planning stages. It is extremely unique. Modeled on Adams Gesundheit Institute in rural West Virginia, he and Glover have developed “The Patch Adams Free Clinic at Philadelphia,” which will offer basic primary care to everybody–even dental, and even veterinary care–for a nominal members fee, which can also be paid in volunteer work. The clinic is owned and run by its members, in cooperation with Glover and Adams.
“We’re more than a free clinic,” says Glover, the legendary founder of Ithaca HOURS local currency, Citizen Planners of Los Angeles, and a dozen more organizations. Never accepting the common wisdom that Americans are not legally allowed to create independent health insurance systems, Glover, who did just that in Philadelphia in recent years, says, “There are practical alternatives to corporate style health systems.”
The new venture will be more than just a free clinic; Glover call it an “economic development force,” creating thousands of “green jobs,” training, organic gardening, fresh food and farmers markets, community trading and barter, beautiful outdoor settings, and their most central feature, “love, fun and justice,” which they consider to be “partners in healing.”
“We’re funny and healthy,” says Glover. “We are the circus come to town.”
